The shell arrangement forming the transformer has a cross-section (15) without any corners. The transformer is used to reduce rogue currents and comprises an openable core whose internal mantle surface defines a channel extending between the two core end surfaces. The core comprises a concentric arrangement of sheet metal shells (10), the innermost shell forming the internal mantle surface and the outermost shell forming the external mantle surface. Each shell contains a slit (11) extending between the two core end surfaces, enabling the transformer to be placed around the cable, whose ends remain unaccessible. An Independent claim is also included for a method for fitting an electric cable inside this transformer, by opening the shells so that at least three slots are widened for the cable to be passed through.
