The saw sword is for a chain saw of the type with an endless, toothed saw chain (12) engaged with a chain wheel (26) located in a machine housing (24) and which runs along the periphery of the sword (10). The sword is installable on a guide heel (20) which engages in a central slot (18) in the sword. At least one guide and lock pin (22) is arranged at the side of the guide heel and engages in an aperture in the sword to firmly lock it. The saw sword at its rear edge has a U-shaped recess, which with its opposing sides grips around guide and lock pins (22) when the sword is inserted.
