The conveyor comprises parallel spaced bands (1). The holder comprises circularly-curved spring bows (4) reaching up and through, between the bands. Their concave sides face the sausage supply unit (5). They extend below the conveyor and up to a rolling-off surface for the sausage, lying parallel to it. The bows deform resiliently. Preferred features: The conveyor runs over a lifting table following the bows. This can be lifted with the conveyor, relative to the spring bow. Spring bow and lifting table define the entrance gap for e.g. bacon rashers entering the wrapping unit. Spring bows are fastened to the rolling surface for the sausages. The bows have a section bending back beneath the conveyor; a recess in the rolling surface accommodates this section with the spring bow extended. A variant based on the foregoing principles is described.
