Streptomyces cacaoi metabolites as inhibitors of monocyte chemoattractant protein 1. The invention describes the use of compounds known in the literature by geldanamycin names, 17-o-desmetilgeldanamicina, Sch 38519 medemicina and as inhibitors of binding between the monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 and its receptors. The compounds are produced by fermentation of Streptomyces cacaoi actimonocito and are useful in the treatment of atherosclerosis and other diseases in which superstimulation involving infiltration by monocytes and macrophages tissue damage.
