An electronic scale for weighing an article includes aweighing channel for providing an output indicative of theinstantaneous weight of the article and a reference channelfor providing an output indicative of instantaneousvibrations affecting the output of the weighing channel.The scale also has a mechanism for providing a signalindicative of a long term average of the referencechannel's output. Another mechanism of the scale comparesthe average signal with the reference channel's output andprovides a validation signal when the reference channel'soutput does not differ by more than a threshold amount fromthe average signal.
