This invention concerns the biological remediation of soils or waterscontaminated with agricultural, industrial or military chemicals. Inparticular, it pertains to a microbiological process based on the use ofnovel, non-genetically engineered, naturally-occurring, non-pathogenic,pollutant-degrading or pollutant-transforming rhizobial strains suitable forthe bioremediation or biorestoration of soils or waters contaminated withcompounds as simple as fertilizer-nitrate and as complex as substitutedaromatic hydrocarbons. The products obtained by the process describedcan also be used as biofertilizers or bioherbicides for the improvement ofthe quality of agricultural and recreational sites.
