The invention relates to a method for roller spinning a workpiece according to which a preform (15) of the workpiece is tensioned on a tool mandrel. In order to shape an inner profile, a relative movement is executed between the tool mandrel (11) and a shaping tool, whereby the shaping tool (22) presses the material of the preform into an outer profile provided on the tool mandrel. In addition, the preform is pretensioned with the aid of a stop element (16) in the longitudinal direction of the tool mandrel, whereby the stop element exerts a torque onto the preform in order to produce a defined torsional stress acting in the peripheral direction of the preform.
