A method for preventing contamination by lead from a piping device (3) made of a lead-containing copper alloy includes the step (13) of chemically conditioning with an acid-containing detergent (2) at least part of the piping device coming into contact with a liquid, thereby inducing corrosion of lead dissolved out onto a surface layer of the liquid-contacting part of the piping device to delead the surface layer of the liquid-contacting part.
