The aim of the invention is to enable the reading and decoding of optical codes in a cost-effective and problem-free manner. To this end, the invention provides a device comprising a decoding unit for decoding optical codes, whereby the device is equipped with an electronic camera which, for recording images, contains a surface sensor that is sensitive to color light.
