Optimised mobile-to-mobile call handling in satellite networks using gprs/umts network architecture

A telecommunication system with GPRS architecture, including at least one transceiver station having a controllable switching means, includes a session manager (SM2) functionality controlling sessions between user terminals communicating with the system by means of the same at least one transceiver station. These sessions are set up as "direct" terminal-to-terminal sessions, and user packet data exchange between the user terminals is routed from the uplink side to the downlink side of the same at least one transceiver station by means of the switching means without traversing other any SGSN or GGSN node of the system.
