A system and method for determining when to answer an incoming packetized data call generated from a base station in a wireless communication network. The system includes a communication device (MT2), which interfaces with the wireless communication network, and a terminal device (TE2), which is electronically coupled to the communication device and is capable of transmitting and receiving packetized data. The communications device (MT2) answers (530) the incoming packetized data call from the base station in response to detecting a control signal or control information indicating the ready-state of the terminal device.
