An image display apparatus (1), such as a liquid crystal display apparatus, wherein a plurality of display elements are arranged, uses an optical transfer material (7) continuously covering the surfaces of at least two display elements (2) to compensate for a dot chipping occurring in one display element (2') by transferring a display of an adjacent display element (2) to the display element (2') having the dot chipping. The optical transfer material comprises, for example, a photochromic material. Thus, even when a dot chipping occurs in a liquid crystal display apparatus, the display of a normal display element (2) is caused to be displayed in a display element (2') having the dot chipping, thereby repairing that display element having the dot chipping. In this way, the product yield can be improved, and the cost can be reduced.
