The invention concerns a method and a system for detecting and iterative decoding of coded and interleaved symbols. They enable, prior to any iteration, to perform (A) a linear estimation of the transmission channel Hl(z) from specific transmitted symbols; then iteratively, to subject the equalising (B) and decoding (C) process to an a priori information exchange (D2) on the bits of symbols for the equalising process (B) derived from the decoding process and on the coded bits (D1) for the decoding process (C) derived from the equalising process (B) and to perform an updated iterative reevaluation (G, E2) of the transmission channel, on the basis of data delivered by the equalising (B) and decoding process (C). The steps performed by iteration 1 are repeated at the next iteration 1+1. The invention is applicable in GSM and EDGE mobile telephone systems.
