METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION OF ARTIFICIAL OXYGEN CARRIERS FROM COVALENTLY CROSS LINKING HAEMOGLOBIN WITH IMPROVED FUNCTIONAL PROPERTIES OF HAEMOGLOBIN BY CROSS-LINKING IN THE PRESENCE OF CHEMICALLY NON-REACTING EFFECTORS OF THE OXYGEN AFFINITY OF THE HAEMOGLOBIN
The invention relates to a method for the production of artificial oxygen carriers from chemically cross-linking haemoglobin with improved functional qualities, wherein the chemically non-reacting effectors of the oxygen affinity of the haemoglobin are added before the cross-linking of the haemoglobin and are present during the cross-linking. This results in the reversible protection of conformative areas of the haemoglobin molecule which control the interaction of the haemoglobin with oxygen. This non-chemical protection results in oxygen binding properties, especially affinity and cooperativity, which are modified during a cross-linking of haemoglobin.
