The present invention may be regarded as a video recording system (10) and method of transferring error-intolerant data stored on a disk (60) in a mode optimised for transferring error-intolerant data stored or to be stored on the disk drive. The method includes sending data transfer commands to the disk drive to transfer the error-tolerant data, interposing a first command into the data transfer commands to initiate a first transfer of the error-intolerant data from a first storage location (75); transmitting an error signal to the host processor, that indicates whether errors occurred with respect to the first transfer; interposing a second command into the data transfer commands, that initiate a second transfer of the error-intolerant data from a second storage location (75), thereby utilizing storage redundancy to achieve an accuracy required for the error-intolerant data while maintaining a transfer rate of the error-tolerant data.
