USE OF 2-MERCAPTO-IMIDAZOLE DERIVATIVES SUBSTITUTED IN POSITION 4 (OR 5) AS ANTIOXIDIZING AGENTS, METHOD OF PREPARATION AND APPLICATIONS IN THE PHARMACEUTICAL, COSMETIC OR FOOD INDUSTRIES
Use of 2-mercapto-imidazole derivs., substd. in position 4 or 5, of formula (I), as antioxidants, is new. R1, R2 = H, lower alkyl, or aralkyl (opt. substd.), provided that R1 or R2 = H; R3 = 0(CH2)nCOR4; -(CH2)nN+)R5R6R7),X-, -CH2CH(COR4)N+-(R5R6R7),X-; R4 = -OR8, -NHR5; - alpha -aminoacid (pref. natural), -NHCH2CH2SO3-,Y+ or (i) or (ii); R5,R6,R7,R8 = H, lower alkyl or aralkyl (opt. substd.); n = 1 or 2; X- = the anion of an acid and Y+ = the cation of a base, which are acceptable in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and foodstuffs. (I) are new, provided that; (a) when R4 = -OR8, R1 andR2 are not both H; (b) when R1 and R2 are both H and when R4 = -OR8 then R5, R6, R7 are not all H; (c) when R3 = -CH2CH(COR4)N+)R5R6R7),X- and R4 = OH R5, R6, R7 are not all methyl.
