METHOD FOR IMPROVING THE GRIP OF A TYRE ON A SNOWY AND/OR ICY ROAD, AND A WINTER TYRE

A method for improving the grip of a tyre on a snowy and/or icy road is described, in which a tread band is formed with a base elastomeric material comprising at least 70 wt%, on the total weight of the elastomeric components, of a polymer mixture comprising: (A) from 20 to 60 wt% of a styrene/1,3-butadiene copolymer and (B) from 40 to 80 wt% of a 1,3-butadiene homopolymer, wherein the copolymer (A) has a glass transition temperature (Tg) higher by at least 30° C than the Tg of the homopolymer (B). A winter tyre is also described having excellent grip on an icy and/or snowy road, and presenting a good performance balance on both wet and dry ground, even in the presence of extreme atmospheric and ground conditions.
