The method uses a variable support, guidance and clamping system for pre-positioning the profile relative to the structural component to which it is to be welded, with synchronised control of a pair of laser beams directed on to the welding point from opposite sides. The laser beam guidance system (1) uses a seam tracking system (20) for automatic alignment with the welding seam, a sensor control circuit (19) and the machine tool numerical control.
