The invention concerns a method of evaluating the effect of yarn defects on the surface configuration of textiles produced using given yarns by generating a simulated image of the surface configuration. To enable simpler and more accurate evaluation of a simulated surface configuration, a first image (51) of the surface configuration is obtained by simulation based on the parameters or measuring signals of the given yarn. A second image (52) is then obained by simulation based on the parameters of a reference yarn and finally the first and the second images are compared.
