Friction between top and bottom rolls is controlled by wetting the surfaces (23, 24) of the rolled product (25) with the spray liquid whose amount and delivery are determined and controlled by a control system (3). The apparatus for controlling the friction between the top and bottom rolls (6, 7) of a roll stand (28) includes a spray unit (2) on the entry side (27) of the roll stand, and a control system (3) for determining the amount of the spray liquid to be delivered.
