The invention relates to the use of a cosmetic competition, or to the production of a pharmaceutical composition, of at least one complex formed by associating tropolone and a divalent metal salt, said complex or composition being used to combat desquamative states of the scalp and/or to slow down natural hair loss, particularly those caused by the fungus Malassezia spp.. The invention also relates to a method of cosmetic treatment of the scalp in order to combat desquamative states of the scalp and/or natural hair loss, consisting in the application of a composition containing at least one complex formed by associating tropolone and a divalent metal salt to the scalp.
