The device for the quantitative assessment of the aligned position of two machine parts, workpieces or the like is specifically used for the purpose of axial alignment or a spindle orientation. A beam of light falls on a two-dimensionally readable optoelectronic sensor, the local point of impingement is determined by the sensor. A portion of the light beam from the sensor is preferably directly reflected onto a second optoelectronic sensor. The local point of incidence of the reflected light beam is determined in analogous manner by the second sensor. From the signals of both sensors, the orientation of at least the first sensor is determined relative to the position of the light beam.
