The present invention relates to a multimedia communication system using an H.323 protocol, and in particular, to an apparatus and method for setting up an H.225 call depending on not user address information in an H.225 message, but information on the presently connected H.225 channel, and establishing an H.245 channel depending on not user address and port information in an H.245 message, but address and port information of the presently connected H.245 channel, so that an H.323 call can be set up, even though a user locates in NAT. In addition, the apparatus and method also transmits audio and video data not by using video and audio-received channel information in the H.245 message, but by acquiring port information from a channel over which the video and audio data has been actually transmitted, so that even a user in a firewall can receive the audio and video data.
