The regulation method compensates variations in the stimulated Rahman dispersion power exchange by on and off switching of individual channels of the optical data transmission path by controlling the spectrum using a rapid regulation stage (14) and a slow regulation stage (13). The rapid regulation has at least 2 regulation systems, at least one of which adjusts the power of a light source (6), e.g. a laser diode, in dependence on the overall power in the optical data transmission path. An Independent claim for an optical data transmission path is also included.
