Method for carrying out a Fourier transform suited to the transfer functions of human sense organs in which a time signal from the time domain is converted to frequency lines within the frequency domain, with a predetermined number and distribution of frequency lines. Conversion is undertaken using a continuous Fourier transform with an integration step replacing the summing of a fast Fourier transform. Independent claims are made for conversion of a time domain signal into a frequency domain signal and an arrangement for transforming a frequency line from the frequency domain into the time domain.
