PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for alarming the failure of a transmission are provided to prevent the transmission from being damaged by holding the hold mode for a long time. CONSTITUTION: A hold mode selection switch switches a transmission to a hold mode. A signal lamp(110) is turned on when the hold mode is selected. A transmission control apparatus(150) contains a buzzer(120) controlled by an operation control signal and a timer. The signal lamp flickers at a constant time interval when the hold mode is maintained during the predetermined constant time. After the flicker of the signal lamp, the buzzer is driven when the certain time has elapsed.
