PURPOSE: A path selecting apparatus and method in a base station of a CDMA mobile communication system are provided to effectively use a channel resource and reduce an expense by providing a polling function that is able to selectively operating an FA in an eight channel unit per channel card for a plurality of different allocated channels by suitably selecting a transmission and reception path. CONSTITUTION: A DSP(Digital Signal Processor)(360) allocates one modulating/demodulating unit(310) to the first FA path as a switching condition corresponding to the first FA(Frequency Assignment) path and the second FA path, and provides a switching condition of allocating three modulating/demodulating units(320) to the second FA path. A CAM(Cell Adder and Multiplier)/CDS(Cell Division Selector)(330) constructs a path selection table according to the switching condition. When the path selection table is completely constructed according to the switching condition provided from the DSP(360), the CAM/CDS(330) performs a switching operation. A modulation signal switched to the first FA path is provided to a SCTA(shelf controller and transceiver control assembly(340), converted into an analog signal and transmitted to a mobile station. A modulation signal switched to the second FA path is provided to a SCTA(350), converted into an analog signal and transmitted to the mobile station. When the modulation signal is provided from the first FA path, the CAM/CDS(330) selects the modulating/demodulating unit(310) according to a reception path selection table, and switches the modulation signal to the selected modulating/demodulating unit(310). The CAM/CDS(330) selects the modulating/demodulating unit(320) according to the reception path selection table for the modulation signal provided from the second FA path, and switches the modulation signal to the selected modulating/demodulating unit(320).
