PURPOSE: A method for setting common phrases in a mobile terminal and a method for transmitting a short message using common phrases are provided to remarkably shorten the time required for short message transmission by setting common phrases in a mobile terminal and making a short message using them. CONSTITUTION: If a user operates a keypad in order to set up message preparation, the mobile terminal displays a screen about message sending(S401). If the user selects "message preparation" on the displayed screen, the mobile terminal displays a list of message preparation menus(S402). If the user selects "new message" among the message preparation menu list, the mobile terminal displays a screen so that the user can make out a new message(S403). In order to make a sentence, if the user inputs a portion of the sentence, the mobile terminal displays the inputted portion(S404). Then, if the user pushes a specific button and a digit button in order to insert the other portion, the mobile terminal fetches a common phrase, or the other portion, from a memory and combines the fetched common phrase with the inputted portion of the sentence(S405).
