PURPOSE: Provided is an apparatus and method for measuring a dipped depth of an electrode dipped under the surface of melt, whereby it is possible to prevent the lower end of the electrode from contacting to the inner wall of the mold and to prevent excess current, thereby completing a stable ESR process. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for measuring a dipped depth of an electrode dipped under the surface of melt in a mold during an ESR process includes a first weight measuring device having a plurality of rod cells and disposed at the top of the electrode to measure a weight of the electrode; a second weight measuring device having a plurality of rod cells and disposed at the bottom of the mold to measure a weight of the mold; a height change measuring device to measure the change of height from the bottom of the mold to the upper end of the electrode; and a signal processing device to determine the dipped depth of the electrode by calculating data from the first and second weight measuring devices and the height change measuring device.
