Logging and recovery method for supporting high performance transaction in main memory resident database system

PURPOSE: A logging and recovery method of a main memory database system is provided to perform a speedy transaction process by reducing an IO operation in a disk, and to maintain a consistency of a database in the case of restarting the database system caused by a wrong operation of the system or abortion of a transaction. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises steps of performing an insertion, deletion or update operation on tuples of database tables at a start of a transaction(S1), modifying the database stored in a main memory device(S2), generating a prior and a posterior log data on the tuples(S3), modifying an index(S4), checking if the transaction is completed(S5), if it is done, returning to the step S1 and otherwise checking if a state of the transaction completion is a commitment or an abortion(S6), and recording the log record at a log file in a disk if a state of the transaction completion is a commitment(S14). The DBMS of the main memory maintains all the data in the main memory, and supports a real time transaction process. To maintain a consistency of a database, IO operations occur at a disk for storing log data. The more the IO operations occur at the disk, the lower the system performance gets. So the IO operations have to be reduced in order to support a high performance transaction process.
