PURPOSE: A 2-stage optical amplifier and an optical amplifying method are provided to unify pump LDs(Laser Diodes) in the optical amplifier, improve the use efficiency of the pump LDs, and improve the pumping performance of the optical amplifier using an optical pump splitter. CONSTITUTION: The first amplifying unit(30) has a pump light generating unit(14) for generating a pump light and an optical pump splitter(22) for splitting the pump light at a certain rate and providing the first pump light and the second pump light. The first amplifying unit(30) amplifies an inputted optical signal using the first pump light and outputs the amplified optical signal. A DCFM(Dispersion Compensation Fiber Module,16) receives the optical signal outputted by the first amplifying unit(30) and compensates loss by color dispersion. The second amplifier(40) amplifies the compensated optical signal using the second pump light and outputs the amplified optical signal.
