PURPOSE: To provide a palm print region dividing device, capable of automatically dividing the palm print into specific regions in registering the palm print impression of each person for authentication of an individual using the palm print. CONSTITUTION: This palm print region dividing device for dividing the palm print into specific regions is provided with a ridge pattern extracting part 11a, for extracting a ridge pattern of the palm print from an image taking the palm print, a little finger and thumb bulb region detecting part 12a for detecting a little finger globular region and a thumb globular region, a crossing detecting part 13a for detecting crossings from the ridge pattern of a boundary of the little finger globular region and a thumb bulb region, a dividing direction determining part 14a for determining the dividing direction from the ridge direction near the crossing, and a dividing position determining part 15a for determining a dividing position, as a position where the palm print is divided into regions, on the basis of the boundary of the little finger globular region and the thumb bulb region, the dividing direction, and the difference in ridge pattern between the thumb bulb region and four fingers base regions.
