PURPOSE: A method for detecting junction generated by the signal instability from a magneto-resistive head is provided to test the instability by recording signals on a track and measuring characteristics of the head which determines maximum amplitude covariant and maximum base line popping noise after aligning junction parts to several track edges. CONSTITUTION: A method for detecting junction generated by the signal instability from a magneto-resistive head includes the steps of recording tracks having right and left track edges on a disc, measuring profile of the tracks(104), moving a magnetic head to align a right junction area to the left track edge(106), measuring a covariant of first amplitude of a signal provided by the magnetic head(114), moving the magnetic head for aligning a left junction area to the right track edge(116), and measuring a covariant of second amplitude of a signal provided by the magnetic head(122).
