The present invention has been disclosed a method and apparatus for edge detection in the edge detection and the color image signal in the vector sequence. Boundary detection controller analyzes the vector sequence representing signal. A frequency-dependent function to the first vector quantity, then is used to calculate a primary differential (MFD) of the changed scalar quantity as vector sequences. The local maximum value of the MFD scalar quantity is greater than a predetermined threshold value to determine the boundary position. In addition, the boundary detection controller analyzes the luminance and chrominance parts of color video signals to get the identity of the luminance edges in the color image and the color-difference edge.
