PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for acquiring an initial synchronization in a W-CDAM(Wideband-Code Division Multiple Access) system are provided to reduce a time required for changing a code phase by directly providing the code phase moved to a code generator for changing a search window. CONSTITUTION: A microprocessor an initial position to start a search and a partial correlation threshold value about a correlation value to a code generator and a phase discriminating unit, respectively(S10). The microprocessor compares the extracted maximum correlation value with a predetermined threshold value(S50). If the maximum correlation value is greater than the threshold value, the microprocessor transmits synchronous acquisition information to a demodulating unit so that the demodulating unit recovers a receiving signal(S60).
