In the transmission system, only some of the series of transmitted signal samples are transmitted by the transmitter 2 to the receiver 6 via the channel 4. In addition, the number of a number of specific parameters of the series of signal samples is determined at the transmitter by the specification means 12 and transmitted to the receiver.;Certain parameters are used at the receiver end 6 to reconstruct missing signal samples. This is done by assigning a value to the missing signal samples, so that a series of signal samples are represented in the most desirable way possible by certain parameters.;If periodicity with a period longer than the duration of the series of signal samples occurs, it is evident that the reconstruction of the signal samples is made by a significant interpolation error. The period is determined at the transmitter 2 and transmitted to the receiver 6 via the same channel 4 and introduced at the receiver 6 by the period introduction means 18 in a reconstructed sequence of signal samples. By doing so, the interpolation error can be significantly reduced.
