PURPOSE: An adaptive bit switch apparatus of A DMT system and method thereof is provided to switch bits aligned to each sub-channel in a transmitter using a really measured signal-to-noise ratio. CONSTITUTION: An analog-to-digital converter(300) converts an analog signal received via a channel into a digital signal. A time-domain equalization unit(302) receives the digital signal and reduces a protection band used to remove inter-block interference. A fast Fourier transform unit(304) receives an output of the time-domain equalization unit and demodulates a data signal modulated in a transmitter. A frequency-domain conversion unit(306) receives an output of the fast Fourier transform unit and compensates a phase error generated at each sub-channel. A signal-to-noise ratio measuring unit(310) receives an output of the analog-to-digital converter to correct a bit allocation table, measures a power spectrum density, and sends the power spectrum density to the transmitter. A decoding unit(308) re-establishes and decodes a slice value based on outputs of the signal-to-noise ratio measuring unit and the frequency-domain conversion unit.
