The present invention relates to a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) system that provides improved heat recovery and to a method of operating the system. One or more feedback ducts 16 from the particle separator 14 connected to the combustion chamber 12 have a thermally conductive portion with a thermally conductive surface 30. The low velocity fluidizing gas is introduced into the bed with another heat conducting part 24 and the particle conveying part 44 to fluidize the bed and the conveying gas is a solid particle inlet positioned below the upper face of the particle into the combustion chamber with a predetermined proportion of particles. It is introduced individually to be conveyed through 32. The barrier is set to prevent the transfer gas from interfering with the heat conduction in the heat conduction portion.
