FIELD: monitoring of natural and technogenious water including river basins, mine and quarry water. SUBSTANCE: water under test is passed through layer of sorption material in ion- exchange column and content of contaminating ions is determined; material used as sorption material is preliminarily treated with solution containing at least one component sorbent by this material of no less selectivity as compared with component being sorbed at maximum level; then, content of contaminating ion in n-fractions of sorption material is determined; ions are taken along entire length of column. Thus, dependence of content of contaminating ions in fractions on beginning of ion-exchange layer of column is obtained to judge distribution of contaminating ions in water objects in time. Invention contains formula for calculating time of getting of contaminating ions water object. EFFECT: possibility of monitoring water at different time intervals in the course of sorption process. 4 cl, 3 dwg, 4 tbl
