FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to synthesis of phenyl-substituted propionic acid methyl ester. Method involves interaction of 2,6-di-tert. -butylphenol with methyl acrylate in their mole ratio = 1: (1-1.1), respectively, at increased temperature using alkaline catalyst consisting of three components in the following ratio, wt. %: 2,6-di-tert. -butylphenolate sodium, 1.4-11.0; β-(4-hydroxy-3,5-di-tert. -butylphenyl)-propionic acid sodium salt, 0.3-3.0; 2,6-di-tert. -butylphenol, the balance, up to 100. Catalyst alkaline components are given on conversion to sum of 2,6-di-tert. -butylphenolate sodium and β-(4-hydroxy-3,5-di-tert. -butyl-phenyl)-propionic acid sodium salt.
