FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: pyrometallurgical unit has shaft furnace with multiple-level arrangement of tuyere system and settler combined with converter. Said unit may be used for selecting various raw materials in low-shaft furnace, including powdered materials and secondary raw materials. Method involves regulating flow rate of oxygen-containing gas in predetermined ratio between different levels of tuyere system to provide for changing composition of gases ranging from oxidizing to reducing gases by changing CO/CO2 ratio. Low level of burden allows requirements to mechanical properties of materials to be decreased and simultaneously carrying out of burden component small fraction to be reduced. Said unit and process allow coke consumption and costs to be reduced. Also, lean polymetallic raw material may be used as basic material.
