APPARATUS FOR OPTICAL OBSERVATION OF VACUUM ARC MELTING PROCESS

FIELD: nonferrous electrometallurgy. SUBSTANCE: apparatus has metal rod, metal tube with side openings, deflecting metal plates and metal grid, inductance coil with loose ferromagnetic core, pulse current generator, and constant high voltage source. Metal tube with rigidly attached deflecting plate is inserted in hermetically sealing relation into one opening of glass. Metal rod with rigidly attached deflecting plate, metal grid and ferromagnetic core is inserted through sealing rubber member into other opening of glass. Deflecting plates are arranged with their surfaces in parallel relation one with respect to another. Metal grid is positioned in parallel with glass. Tube side openings are positioned between glass and grid. Deflecting plates and grid are arranged at inner side of viewing window and induction coil is positioned at outer side of viewing window. Pulse current generator is connected to inductance coil and constant high voltage source. Apparatus is further equipped with fiber guide and optical lens. Input part of fiber guide with optical lens is located in metal tube and output part of fiber guide is connected to optical spectrograph. Apparatus may be used in production of highly reactive metals and alloys, such as titanium, in vacuum arc electrical furnaces and enables reliable control and stable running of vacuum arc melting process by providing safety to said apparatus and eliminating interruptions in melting process due to stoppage of furnace induced by false signals.
