A method for the production of artificial lightweight aggregate with the use of paper - and dye sludge

Production of an artificial lightweight aggregate comprises (A) (a) mixing an aggregate slurry, which has a moisture content 30%, with debris obtained by pulverising rubble to reduce the moisture content; (b) mixing this mixture and sludge from a sewage works in 50:50 weight ratio, drying and micropulverisation; and (c) converting the mixed sludge to granules on a rotary table; (B) covering the surface of a granules with dried and micropulverised paper pulp to prevent condensation during calcination and to reduce the density of the aggregate; (C) calcining the granules with a reducing flame at 1000-1200 deg C in a furnace fuelled with gas or oil; and (D) cooling the calcined granules.
