A carbon black is modified by reacting it with organic compounds containing a carbon-carbon double or triple bond, which is activated by substituent(s). An independent claim is also included for a modified carbon black obtained from the above method. The modified carbon black has organic groups which contain substituted carbon-carbon (C-C) single or double bond(s), and which are linked to the carbon black via the two carbon atoms of the C-C bond. At least one of the carbons of the C-C bond contains activating substituent(s).
