A novel ligand-metal complex comprises ruthenium, rhodium, palladium and platinum and a monophosphine, monophosphinite or monophosphinamidite ligand. A ligand-metal complex (I) comprises ruthenium, rhodium, palladium and platinum and a monophosphine, monophosphinite or monophosphinamidite ligand of formula (1). An Independent claim is included for the hydroformylation of ethylenically unsaturated compounds by reaction of at least one ethylenically unsaturated compound with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a ligand-metal complex (I).
