The device for holding an elongated object, such as a surface water dispersal gutter during the laying of concrete to form a road or garage surface, comprises a first section (20) which can bee connected to the ground area (1) and has a foot palte (23) with through apertures. A second section (30) can be engaged with the elongated object (5). On the foot plate upright parts (26) are mounted. The second section has a support (31) for the object, which extends between the upright parts. The device also has components (50) for holding the elongated object in position on site, to which each of the upright parts is connected.
