Peptide (I) for gene transfer, comprising a DNA carrier sequence of 10-20 Lys with a sequence of 5-20 additional amino acids (aa) attached to its C-terminus, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) peptide-DNA complex (II) containing a (I) that, to improve transfection efficiency, forms a complex with vector DNA that is solubilized only at high salt concentration in the sodium chloride concentration range 0.15-0.6 M; and (2) method for peptide-mediated gene transfer using (I).
