Process for the production of at least one alkanolamine by reaction of ammonia with alkylene oxide. The process is carried out in a reactor in the presence of a catalyst and yields mono-, di and/or trialkanolamines. The distribution of the different alkanolamines is regulated by the temperature in the reactor, which is characterized by adjustment of the temperature by regulation of the temperature profile in the reactor.
