Device has imaging level (20) with line sensors (22) below transparent areas (18) of sheet support surface (14). Paper sheet is aligned at stop (16) and its edge positions detected by line sensors to be realigned if position not correct for scanning by scanning device (32). Paper sheet is placed on support surface (14) which has limiting element in form of stop (16) or line marked on support surface, which provides a straight line to place sheet against. Surface is almost flush with three areas (18) of glass or other transparent material or areas are recessed. Parts of the paper sheet are imaged by line sensors (22) contained in imaging level (20) to detect paper edge positions. Line sensors are arranged parallel or vertical to the stop (16). Holes (14) provide vacuum suction to hold paper in place. Detected size and position of paper is used to displace it to correct position for digital imaging by camera (32).
