Device for continuously determining the degree of purity of a metal melt (9) comprises an ultrasound converter (12); a coupling segment (7) in contact with the me and a spatially separate reflector (10). Preferred Features: The coupling segment is made of ceramic, preferably aluminum oxide stabilized with 3% zirconium oxide. The ultrasound converter is surrounded by a cooling device (13). The reflector is arranged opposite the coupling segment. A transceiver-receiver system is arranged in the wall of a container (2) with the ultrasound converter and the coupling segment so that the normal of the base surface (8) cuts through the symmetry axis of the container.
